AUC Libraries' Strategic Alliances
Building partnerships to achieve institutional goals is a growing trend both within libraries and in the broader academic community. Such partnerships allow the sharing of expertise, provide access to a wider range of resources and services than may be possible within one’s own area or organization, and strengthen the library’s position within the university as well as across its Community. AUC Libraries maintain strategic agreements with national and international organizations on a consortial and inter-institutional basis to provide each other with access to materials and services, in accordance with AUC policies.
I. AUC Consortium Alliances
1. AMICAL
AMICAL is an international consortium of 30 American‐modeled institutions in 22 different countries. It is a cooperative organization for advancing learning, teaching and research through the collaborative development of the library, technology and curricular resources at member institutions. On 2019, AUC Library has hosted the 16th annual AMICAL meeting and conference in parallel to AUC’s centennial celebration with the objective of “Openness in teaching and research: Broadening our horizons for the digital future”. 2. Online Computer Library Center (OCLC)
OCLC, an American nonprofit cooperative organization, is dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. OCLC, after a merger with Research Libraries Group, Inc. (RLG), is a global library cooperative that provides shared technology services, original research and community programs for its membership and the library community at large. With thousands of library members in more than 100 countries, we come together as OCLC to make information more accessible and more useful.
3. Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB)
The Egyptian Knowledge Bank is an initiative that has been launched during the National Science Day of 2014. EKB is the world's largest digital library granting unlimited resources exclusively for Egyptians to serve the knowledge needs of the basic educational systems, higher education and scientific research as well as general readers.
II. AUC Inter-Institutional Alliances
1. American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE)
AUC libraries and ARCE have joined efforts for supporting research on all aspects of Egyptian history and culture for fostering a broader knowledge of Egypt among the general public.
2. Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo - Universiteit Leiden (NVIC)
During 2022, AUC libraries and NVIC have agreed to cooperate in supporting researchers in the field of Arabic and Islamic studies, Egyptology, Archaeology and Papyrology for Egyptian and non-Egyptians scholars. Check NVIC online catalogue for more details.
