Visiting and Access to the Library

Location

The visitor entrance to the Rare Books and Special Collections Library (RBSCL) is located on the third floor of the Main Library building on AUC’s New Cairo campus. The Main Library building is located on Bartlett Plaza at the center of campus.

Access

AUC students, faculty, and staff and welcome to visit the library. For use of archives or other specialized assistance, making an appointment with a staff member is recommended.

External (non-AUC) visitors are welcome but should contact library staff to discuss their needs. Library staff will need to clear the external visitor’s arrival with campus and library security; visitors must bring passports or government photo identification. External users who plan to use the library extensively must apply for a user card and pay applicable fees. Journalists, photographers, or film crews wishing to cover library events, interview library staff, or photograph or film the library or its holdings should contact AUC’s Office of Marketing Communication and Public Affairs staff; consult AUC’s website for contacts.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions are open to the public. For entry to the campus and the library, contact a library staff member who will arrange clearance.

Tours

Tours of the RBSCL are available for exhibitions, rare books, and special collections materials. These tours are given by library subject specialists and can be offered in English, Arabic, and French. To inquire, write to rbscl-ref@aucegypt.edu and indicate the nature of the individuals or group seeking the tour, the number of people, desired visit date and time and duration of the tour, and any particular holdings or subject interests.
